Karen’s current favorites:
The Usborne First Book
of Art:
This is a lovely book that gives children exposure to fine art,
the great artists and what techniques made them remarkable.
Then it invites children to create their own works of art
inspired by the masters! Clear step-by-step project
directions are a springboard for imagination and creativity to
fly. This book is so engrossing that even adults will turn
page by page and examine the artwork. Includes works from
such greats as Warhol, Monet, Vermeer, Klimt, van Gogh and the
list goes on and on. This book is a spiral hardback so
that it will always lay flat which is handy when doing the
projects . A beautiful book.
Sticker Dolly Dressing
Princesses:
The first thing that impressed me with Sticker Dolly Dressing
Princesses was the weight of it. This is a large, thick
book! Twenty-four pages of full color glossy story
pictures and over four hundred beautiful stickers in the middle
of the book include fully coordinated outfits, lots of
accessories, and little embellishments to decorate the scenery.
The stickers are very easy to work with. My daughter and I
dressed an entire princess in multiple layers before we decided
we wanted that particular outfit on a different princess.
I easily peeled each sticker layer by layer with no curling,
tearing or damaging the surface colors and stuck them on the new
princess. And they’ve stayed right where we put them.
Usborne delivers QUALITY sticker books that deliver literally
hours of enjoyment.
The Usborne
Illustrated Dictionary of Math:
Ok, I must be honest. This book actually makes my heart beat
faster – but not in the way you would think. It’s from
math anxiety! I am so pleased to have this resource in my
collection so that when the kids start getting into the higher
grades I can quickly get a crash course refresher before I try
to help them with their homework! This will be an invaluable
resource to you and your child. For a more in-depth review
of what the book covers, please click on the link where you will
find an extensive review of the contents. There’s a lot of
information in this book! And it’s internet linked to
bring math to life!! Available in flexi-binding, but I
splurged and bought the library bound for years of use.
Trucks Sticker Book:
My house is an unofficial quality control testing center for
Usborne books. Next on the list was the Trucks Sticker
Book given to my two-year- old. Please note that the book
is intended for ages three and up on account of the stickers
being small and posing a choking hazard. So we play with
this book together. That said anyone who has ever had a
two-year-old knows what devastation can be wrought! And
stickers are easy targets. They get ripped, crumpled,
stuck on the carpet and filled with fuzz so they’ll never stick
anywhere again. Against such odds the Trucks Sticker Book
is holding up JUST FINE! These are large, sturdy stickers
that he can manipulate easily. He can stick them on the
page, peel them off and stick them back on again over and over.
And as long as he avoids the carpet fuzz they will stay stuck on
the page. There are a wide variety of scenes from the country
featuring tractors and milk trucks, to the building site with
dump trucks and excavators to the town with a fire engine and
garage truck. Sure to please any child fascinated with all
things having wheels.
